Ear Training

During your drum audition you will be asked to participate in some berklee ear training exercises. The better you do during this part, the higher the chances are of you getting a scholarship to the music school. So please prepare for this if it is not one of your strengths. Many drummers don't do very good during this part so if you do well you will stand out.

They will start by playing a pattern on the piano and you will have to repeat the pattern with the exact rhythm and also try as best as you can to get the correct pitches of the pattern using the different Toms. They might also ask you to sing the pattern back to them instead.

The second thing they might do is clap some rhythms and all so you have to do is clap back.

The last part is probably the most difficult for drummers. They will play some chords on the piano and you have to state whether they played a Major chord, a Minor chord, a Diminished chord an Augmented chord and also some 7th chords - major 7th, minor 7th, dominant 7th.

Use this website for some basic training on these chords. When you get to the website, UNCHECK the interval tab, and CHECK the chords tab. Under chords to play, check the chords you wish to practice and press play. Also if you use the melodies tab you can practice by trying to repeat the melodies with your drum set.

GOOD LUCK! and dont forget to practice today.
